5 Tips for Saving Money at the Pump

When it comes to owning a car, saving money can be a challenge. Rising gas prices contribute to the struggle of staying within a budget, and a car that needs repairs can be an out of pocket nightmare. Luckily, there are techniques that drivers can do that will save money on fuel costs without trading in your car for a more fuel efficient one. Here are 5 ways consumers can cut down costs at the pump.

1) Check Your Tires. When your tires are low, vehicles can lose up to 2.8 percent[1] of their fuel efficiency, which you’re going to notice at the pump. It also wears out tires faster and can knock the car out of alignment, resulting in extra costs down the line.

2)  Easy on the Brakes. Tapping on the brakes when you don’t need to means that you’ll need to step on the gas pedal to compensate for speed loss. The back and forth can affect your bottom line. Experts recommend steady acceleration and deceleration for the most mileage savings of $0.25 – $1.00 per gallon.

3) Bye, Bye, Roof Cargo. If you have a cargo storage on the top of your roof, you could be wasting up to 25% of your fuel economy, depending on where you’re driving. Take it off when you’re not using it, or get one for the back of your car instead.

4) Cruise Control. If you’ve never used your cruise control before while driving on the highway, you may want to start. Setting your car up to cruise at one speed means that your vehicle is using the right amount of fuel to keep it maintained, and saving you money.

5) Change Your Air Filter.  Did you know that 1 out of 4 cars has a dirty air filter? Changing  your air filter in your car can save you up to 10% of fuel costs, equating to about $0.39 a gallon[2].

Implementing these habits can add up quickly, and lead to significant savings in your wallet. To find a distributor or a technician nearest you, click here to see the map!
